What some may have expected to be a rebuilding season, the Ada Lady Cougars have proven that tradition never graduates as the young but determined group of golfers appear ready to reach another state tournament. After another third place in their final regular season event at Tecumseh, seven strokes off Durant’s winning pace, Ada will host the Class 5A East regional tournament on Wednesday at Oak Hills Country Club.
“Playing at home will give us the advantage of course familiarity but we will have to play our best against two teams that are now playing their best,” said head coach Ron Anderson referencing Carl Albert and Durant as top ranked competition. “We still must execute, hit good shots, play smart and control what we can control.”
The top six teams from each of the two Class 5A regional tournaments will advance to the state tournament April 29-30 that will be hosted by Muskogee and played on the Muskogee Golf Club course.
Seniors London Wilson and Ava Manwell will lead the Cougars quintet into the Class 5A regional tournament joined by Brooklyn Black (Jr.), Bella Stowers (So.) and Dani McTague (Fr.).
“After winning two tournaments this spring (Duncan and Ardmore) and several other top three finishes, we’re looking forward to playing on the Oak Hills course,” said Anderson, noting the Ada girls have been consistently ranked among the top five teams all year. “This group of girls has really worked hard to give us a chance.”
