Senior Cooper McKeel has become a fixture for Konawa High School, anchoring the infield and line in two sports with the kind of reliability that wins games.

“Baseball – first base/third base/OF/C. Football DE/LB/TE,” McKeel said.

Two breakthroughs stand out from his Tigers career. “My favorite memories are winning our first high school baseball tournament and becoming district champions in football for the first time in over 30 years this season,” he said.

Those moments taught him how to carry a team. “Baseball has taught me how to be a leader and how to be responsible to show up to work every day with a goal in mind and positive energy no matter what,” McKeel said.

One educator shaped more than his grades. “Mrs. Norman is my favorite teacher because she understands me and taught me so much in the classroom and in life,” he said.

Family offers constant guidance. “My parents inspire me the most no matter what because they are always giving me the best advice and encouragement,” McKeel said. A teammate matches his fire. “Tyler Whitley because we both show up every day with the same goals in mind and show up every day ready to work and want to help our team to be the best we can and win a state championship,” he said.

Competing for Konawa fills him with gratitude. “The best part is being able to go out there and do all the things I love and to be a part of doing so is just a blessing,” McKeel said. “Having the opportunity to is so amazing.”

Competition comes down to effort. “The best advice I’ve been told is once you get to a certain level the talent that surrounds you is about the same it’s about who’s willing to work hardest and who wants it the most,” he said.

He saves thanks for those closest to his journey. “I would just like to say thank you to my parents, coaches, God, my family, and friends,” McKeel said.

A Lakers legend sets his work ethic. “Kobe Bryant inspired me the most because no matter what he’d always be working the hardest and whatever he put his mind to he’d work as hard as possible to reach that goal,” he said.
