“I’m motivated by my mistakes,” said Edyn Keefer, a freshman at Ada High School and a rising star on the softball field. “Everyone makes mistakes, but I try not to make the same mistake twice. That pushes me to learn, get better, and go after every ball with confidence.” This determination has served her well as she juggles multiple sports and has already earned a starting position on the varsity softball team at shortstop.
At just 15, Edyn’s athletic versatility is on full display—she not only plays shortstop but also competes in track (hurdles and relays) and basketball as a shooting guard. Despite the busy schedule, she’s found ways to excel by embracing hard work. “It takes lots of practice, playing the game as much as possible, and learning from my mistakes,” she explained. Her dedication paid off with a career highlight moment that stands out: “Starting at shortstop and leading off for varsity as a freshman is pretty high on the list.”
Edyn draws inspiration from two major influences: her dad, Tommy Keefer, and Sis Bates, a former star shortstop for the University of Washington. “My dad has helped me learn the game more and has helped me to have success,” she said. “And I would say Sis Bates is one of the best shortstops to ever play the game.”
Her support network also extends beyond sports, as she credits youth group leaders Mark Pickel and Jared Williams from Ada First Baptist Church for helping her grow spiritually. “They helped me find God, and I’m very thankful for them,” Edyn shared.
In addition to sports, Edyn is involved in FCA, where she stays connected with other student-athletes. Her future plans include pursuing cosmetology at the Pontotoc Technology Center during high school and eventually earning a softball scholarship to play for the University of Oklahoma. “I hope to obtain a scholarship to OU to play softball for the Sooners,” she said confidently.
For Edyn, playing for Ada is a source of pride. “Ada has a great athletic program, and I would say every day is a great day to be a Coug!” With her passion for the game and relentless drive, the future looks bright for this young athlete.
