The “reboot” as they call it continued this year for the Ada High Schol cheer program as for the second time in a row the squad qualified for the performance aspect of the recent state cheer competition, this time placing sixth.
“Our goal this year was to improve on our performance over last year which we did and for the first time ever we also qualified for the state Game Day competition in November,” said cheer coach Karry Griese. “The cheer program here has a long history of doing well but went on about a 10-year hiatus from performance competition until we went last year.”
This has been a busy but exciting year for the Ada High cheer program.
“We had tryouts last spring and ended up with about 25 cheerleaders which is probably the largest squad Ada has ever had,” said Griese. “We went to camp in May and got our choreography in July to start working on our performance routine. We worked hard all summer and went to regionals where we placed ninth and got enough points to qualify for state. I think one of the things the girls have all seen in the last two years is that it takes hard work to be successful in cheer.”
After their successful run at state, the squad took a week off but is again doing the hard work of preparing for the Game Day regional competition which is November 4. And, of course, in the midst of all of this there is still the weekly work of getting ready for the Friday night football games which the squad enjoys taking part in.
