For Ada High School junior Chloe Martin, basketball is more than just a sport; it’s a way to grow, connect, and represent her community with pride. As a guard for the team, Martin plays with purpose, fueled by her faith, her coaches, and her teammates. 

“God, my coaches, and my teammates motivate me every day,” Martin shared with Vype Magazine. 

Martin’s passion for basketball runs in the family. Her mother, Bambi Martin, played basketball in high school and has always been a strong influence. 

“She has a good understanding of the game,” Martin explained. “She knows how to motivate me and is someone who is easily looked up to by others. It makes me proud to call her my mom,” Martin added. Her grandmother, Vickie Gibson, is another major supporter, always offering encouragement and the right words to help her grow. 

Martin also gives credit to Coach Kaylee Byrd for shaping her as a player. 

“She pushes me to my limits, and I strive to be a player she can depend on and count on in difficult situations,” Martin said.

Success hasn’t come easy. After not playing her freshman year, Martin made a personal commitment to improve her skills and earn her varsity spot. Her determination paid off in a highlight moment during her sophomore season. Martinwas subbed into a varsity game with one minute left and scored eight points. 

“That game made me realize I’m an important part of this team,” she recalled.

Off the court, Martin shines as a leader in her school community. She is active in Student Council and the Leadership Club, where she helps promote school spirit and positive change. 

Looking ahead, she plans to attend the University of Oklahoma or Baylor University to pursue a career in medicine, with dreams of becoming an anesthesiologist.

For Martin, representing Ada High School means more than just wearing a jersey; it’s about representing her community. 

“When I see everyone supporting me and my teammates, it reminds me they’re rooting for us to be the best,” she said. Seeing the support helps motivate Martin and the team to do their best to give back to their supportive community.
