Ada’s Brayleigh Stephens – Softball Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank of Ada
For Ada senior Brayleigh Stephens, the mission this season is crystal clear. “My personal goals heading into this season are to earn All-State honors and to have my best season yet, both individually and as a team player,” she said.
That individual drive matches the collective energy of the Lady Cougars. “The morale has been positive this year,” Stephens explained. “We’ve all been focused on supporting each other and pushing to be the best at the next game.”
It’s not just attitude that has shifted—it’s execution. “The biggest improvement I’ve seen from our team is how well we work together,” she said.
And as for team goals, they’re aiming high. “Our biggest goal would be to make a strong playoff run,” Stephens stated.
She sees growth as the team’s biggest advantage. “From a senior perspective, I think our biggest strength is how far we’ve grown together as a team,” she said. “We are a younger team and we’ve built a lot of trust.”
That trust shows up in how she embraces her own versatility. “2nd base, Catcher, short stop and 3rd base,” Stephens said when asked about her positions. “Truly, I play wherever I am needing that game.”
Her approach at the plate or in the field comes from attention to detail. “When I’m reading a defense, I look for gaps in the infield and outfield, the positioning of the corners, and how deep the outfield is playing,” she explained. “I also pay attention to whether the defense is shifting.”
For her, preparation starts before the first pitch. “My mindset when I step on the field is to give everything I have and stay fully focused,” she said. “I play every game like it could be my last.”
She hopes that example will leave a lasting mark. “I want my legacy at Ada to be someone who led by example, worked hard every day, and helped build a team culture where everyone supports each other,” Stephens said. “I hope people remember me not just for my stats on the field, but for the dedication and positive energy I brought to the team.”
That bond is what makes the Lady Cougars special. “That bond and dedication isn’t always visible in a game, but it’s what makes our team strong,” she said.
Her favorite moment in uniform was deeply personal. “My favorite memory in an Ada uniform was my sophomore year when we played Byng, the school I transferred from, and we won,” Stephens said. “Wearing an Ada jersey that day was emotional for me. It wasn’t just about the game; it was about feeling accepted, valued, and proud to be part of a team and community that had welcomed me with open arms.”
Looking ahead, Stephens is focused on her future. “I plan to attend college and earn a doctorate degree in occupational therapy. My goal is to become a pediatric occupational therapist and work with children to help them reach their full potential.”
