It started with a golf club in hand at just five or six years old—and Couper Taylor-Rogers hasn’t put it down since. “I started playing golf around five or six years old and fell in love with it,” said the Ada High School standout. Now a dedicated athlete on the Cougar golf team, Couper continues to grow his game with passion and purpose.

“My drive is to retire my parents for everything they have provided for my family,” he said. That motivation keeps him working day in and day out—on the course and off—pushing to make each swing count and every round better than the last.

This season, Couper believes the team is tighter than ever. “I feel like this is our best chemistry yet!” he said. With strong camaraderie and mutual support, the Ada golf squad is poised for something special.

As for team dynamics, Couper appreciates the laid-back yet focused culture they’ve created. “I believe we all don’t have any roles—we just be who we are and enjoy each other,” he said.

With the season underway, Couper has clear goals. “I hope to make it to State as a team this year!” he said. That mission drives every practice and tournament.

And he doesn’t slack on preparation. “I go to the course five-six times a week and stay out there for as long as I can,” Couper said. It’s that kind of consistency and discipline that keeps him progressing.

One of the biggest challenges he’s faced came during last year’s regionals. “I had to play really good the last few holes to qualify for state individually,” he recalled. It was a test of focus, patience, and mental toughness—but one he passed under pressure.

Not every moment is serious, though. “It’s kind of an inside joke, but last season, my little brother ordered some tacos,and they came out wet and we thought it was the funniest thing ever—and our coach started to choke, but he’s good!” Couper laughed.

Whether it’s golf or automotive work, Couper has a plan. “I see myself as a collegiate golf player or a diesel mechanic,” he said.

And no matter where life takes him, he carries the values passed down from home. “On and off the course, my role model would be my dad,” he said. “He has always set an amazing example to be a grown adult.”

When it comes to gratitude, Couper knows who’s in his corner. “My parents—they have always pushed me to pursue golf or just my dream simply. I will forever be in debt and grateful for anything and everything they have done for me!”
