Ada’s Elvis Edwards – Baseball Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank of Ada

For Elvis Edwards, being a leader on the field means more than just playing the game—it’s about building trust and support among his teammates. “I feel like I’m the leader of the team, so to prepare for it I make sure everyone knows I have their back no matter what and that they have mine,” Elvis says. This dedication to his team is a defining characteristic of the Ada High School baseball standout.

Growing up, Elvis was inspired to play baseball by his brother and dad. “Seeing my brother play growing up, I wanted to become just like him, if not better than him,” he shares. Their influence sparked a lifelong love for the sport and a commitment to always striving for improvement.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Elvis is optimistic about the team’s chemistry. “Team chemistry will be great; everyone knows their role and they know communication is key,” he says. With clear goals in mind, he is focused on leading Ada High to the state tournament, a goal he is confident the team can achieve.

Preparation is a daily commitment for Elvis. “Training is going to the field, taking some ground balls, doing fielding drills, and then going to hit after,” he explains. This routine, paired with a strong mental focus, has helped him overcome challenges such as dealing with errors on the field. “I soon realized that everyone makes errors in baseball, and it’s all a part of the game. I can’t let that get to me,” he reflects.

One of Elvis’s favorite memories is from the playoffs against Bishop McGuinness. “I made back-to-back diving plays at shortstop,” he recalls, showcasing the defensive skill that makes him a key player for his team.

Beyond baseball, Elvis enjoys fishing and duck hunting and is inspired by his brother Mekhi, whose dedication to multiple sports serves as a constant reminder to work hard. After high school, Elvis hopes to play at a JUCO college and eventually advance to a university program. “In five years, I see myself finishing up college and playing at a good university,” he shares, with plans to work alongside his dad in the oil fields after his baseball career.

Elvis credits his success to his dad and stepmom. “They’ve made sacrifices to help me succeed in baseball and in the classroom,” he says. Their support fuels his determination to make the most of every opportunity.
