Seniors Captains to Pace Lady Cougars – Presented by Keith Cosby Shelter Insurance

ADA GIRLS BASKETBALL CAPTAINS

Two seniors will anchor the leadership of the Lady Cougars basketball team this year in Kennadee Bickerstaff and Karsyn Woods. In addition to basketball both girls also play soccer.

“My love has always been soccer. I also played basketball but don’t think I was ever serious about it and so when I got to high school I decided to put my efforts into soccer,” said Kennadee who is also in the National Honor Society. “I came back to basketball this year and I’m absolutely loving it. It’s taken a while to get back in the groove of the game, but I quickly made friends with all the girls.”

Karsyn also cited a love for soccer but for a different reason.

“I think I like soccer a little more because I haven’t played it very long and so it’s a fun getaway for me. All my friends were playing basketball when I was little and so I got into it around the first grade and have been playing ever since.”

Based on their backgrounds, the girls have somewhat different takes on being captains and senior leaders.

“It’s definitely a different role me,” said Karsyn. “Up until now I’ve been a role player and didn’t have to get on anyone or make sure they’re doing the right thing. Now I have to do those things, but I like it because I feel like I get to help run the team and make sure things are going smoothly. I try to lead by always having a positive attitude and pick up folks if they’re having a bad day.”

For Kennadee, it’s a little different having been away from basketball for a while.

“I’m very grateful to be a captain because I think it shows the trust that coach (Christie) Jennings has in me. I think she knows what I’ll bring to the table and that I’ll go out and do my best every game,” said Bickerstaff who also has a passion for rodeo where she has had a successful career in goat tying.

Both girls plan on attending OSU following graduation. Kennadee plans to study elementary education while Karsyn is currently in the Health Sciences program at Pontotoc Technology Center as a step towards getting a nursing degree in college.
