Ada’s Karsyn Woods – Softball Spotlight – Presented by United Rentals

For Karsyn Woods, softball isn’t just a sport; it’s a family tradition and a personal journey of growth. Born and raised in Ada, Oklahoma, Karsyn has always been active, surrounded by a family where baseball and softball are central. “I have four siblings and very loving parents who always wanted the best for me… with baseball and softball running in the family, it was only fitting that I continued the family tradition.”

One of the key influences in Karsyn’s journey was her childhood best friend, Shay Grissom. Shay’s passion for the game inspired Karsyn, especially in the face of adversity. “Even after losing her father unexpectedly, her drive and love for the game never let up. This was one of my greatest influences to push myself to be the player I am today.”

As the varsity pitcher for Ada High School, Karsyn takes her role seriously, constantly honing her craft with regular pitching lessons from Coach Ellen Sweatt. “I’m constantly throwing bullpens or working on my technique to keep my mechanics intact,” she said.

Karsyn’s leadership and commitment are evident in how she describes her team’s chemistry. “Our team is very young, but despite that, multiple players have stepped into new roles this season. We have embraced the challenges and are encouraging and supportive of one another.”

Her most memorable moment came in a game against Byng, where Karsyn pitched for nine innings and threw 133 pitches. “I wasn’t doing well at the plate, but I remember giving it everything I had on the mound. We went on to win the game 6-5, and it was a turning point in my career.”

Karsyn’s goals are focused on personal growth and teamwork rather than accolades. “My goal this season is to play our best as a team and have fun. I’m not focused on winning a state championship, although that would be nice.”

Looking ahead, Karsyn envisions a future outside of softball but remains grateful for all it has taught her. “After high school, I plan to attend college to obtain my Registered Nursing license and later become a Nurse Practitioner. I am very thankful for everything softball has given me.”

With a supportive family and a determined mindset, Karsyn Woods exemplifies what it means to be a team player and a leader both on and off the field.
