The combination of individual performance to create a total team effort proved to be the deciding momentum for the Lady Cougars to win the team championship of the Ada Invitational last Friday. In singles competition, sophomore Sadie Epps claimed the silver medal with a second place finish while junior Presley Dickinson earned points with her fifth place finish. The Lady Cougars won the gold medal at number-1 doubles as Jessi Bolin (Jr.) and Taylor Cook (So.) mastered the field while juniors Lilly Cadenhead and Jerzie O’Neal claimed the bronze medal with a third place finish.
Also competing for the Lady Cougars, Bailey Boatwright (Fr.) and Izzy Justice (Fr.) played at number-1 doubles while Channing Ballard (Fr.) and Mallory Ross (Jr.) played at number-2 doubles.
Returning four of six players from last year’s squad and the transfer of Sadie Epps, head coach Terry Swopes is excited about the continued improvement of play and depth of development by this year’s squad. “We’re competing in Class 4A this spring and with the experience we have returning and the addition of younger players who continue to improve their game, Ada girls will once again be a contender again to compete for a state team title.”
Ada has five tournaments remaining on their spring schedule before the OSSAA playoffs begin April 29 seeking the schools 11th girls state title.
