Ada’s Brock Boyles – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank

Brock Boyles has been around baseball long enough to understand what the game really demands—patience, toughness, and the ability to respond when things don’t go right. After first picking up a bat and glove at age three, he has grown into a pitcher and catcher for Ada High School, taking on responsibility well beyond his positions as a leader on the field.

Boyles has developed into a steady voice for his team; someone teammates lean on when pressure builds. Whether he is behind the plate or on the mound, his focus stays on keeping everyone locked in and mentally steady through the difficulties of a game.

“I am a senior this year and I have been playing baseball since I was 3 years old,” Boyles said. “My role over the past few years has been to be a leader and the vocal one on the field.”

A big part of his impact comes from his understanding of the game. Years of experience have given him a strong sense of how different situations unfold and how to react in the moment. That awareness, he said, has been just as important as any physical skill.

“It has taken a long time playing it and seeing all the different situations that you can be in and what to do in those situations,” he said.

Even with that experience, Boyles said the mental side of baseball is what separates players. Staying calm is a constant focus, especially when things start to go wrong.

“Just telling myself to relax and realizing that this game is based on failure,” he said.

One of his biggest early challenges came during his first varsity appearance as a freshman, when he faced older, more experienced players and struggled to settle in. Instead of letting it shake him, he chose to compete and attack each moment.

He later faced similar pressure in playoff situations, including innings where he had to work out of difficult spots and unexpected momentum swings. Through those experiences, he learned the importance of staying level no matter what is happening around him.

Boyles credits his competitiveness and desire to win for driving him, along with a mindset built on consistency and accountability. Now in his final season, he continues to lead by example, focusing on effort, attitude, and keeping his team mentally strong through every situation the game brings.
