“My dad was my inspiration to play the sport,” said Brayleigh Stephens, a softball player at Ada High School. “He always wanted me to be the best at it and would take me out and teach me whatever I needed to know.” That early encouragement sparked Brayleigh’s love for softball, and she has been playing since she was five years old. Now a standout leader on her team, she reflects fondly on those early memories, like learning to slide in the mud. “Everyone always wanted to slide like me.”
Born and raised in Ada, Brayleigh has deep ties to her hometown. “Baseball and softball have always been part of my family,” she said, crediting both her parents for shaping her life on and off the field. “My parents play the most significant role in shaping my life in both sports and developing guidance and encouragement through influence not only athletic, but the values and life lessons learned along the way.” Their unwavering support has helped her through both triumphs and challenges, including a difficult transition when she transferred schools. “My sophomore year, when I transferred and was denied my hardship, I had to sit out for a little bit until we sold our house and moved.”
Brayleigh’s impact on the Ada softball program has been immediate. “I feel like I’m one of the leaders on the team, and they look up to me,” she said. Her leadership is backed by hard work, as she can often be found in the batting cages. “When we aren’t playing, you can find me in the cages hitting. Always trying to find a way to keep my bat going.” One of the most memorable moments of her career so far came this season when she hit her first home run against Dickson on her home field.
With a strong bond among teammates, Brayleigh describes this year’s team chemistry as excellent. “The team’s chemistry is really good this year. I love softball, and everyone gets along.” She also values the support of the Ada community. “We love when the stands are packed. Having fans, family, and local supporters cheering us on gives us motivation.”
Looking ahead, Brayleigh hopes to play college softball while pursuing a degree in dental hygiene. “Right now, I am planning to play college softball and go on to become a dental hygienist.” Reflecting on her move to Ada, she feels grateful for the welcoming atmosphere. “That was the best move of my career. They welcomed me with open arms, and I only wished I would have moved sooner.”
Her advice to younger athletes? “Stay consistent with your practice, never give up, be coachable, focus on the team, play with your heart, never stop learning.” With the guidance of her parents and the love of her brother, Brayleigh is poised to continue making an impact both on and off the field. “Thank you to my parents for always being there for me not just in softball but in everything I do.”
