Ada’s Will Johnson – Football Spotlight – Presented by First United Bank of Ada

Will Johnson, a senior at Ada High School, is in his final season of football, marking the culmination of a journey that began in the seventh grade. “I started football in the seventh grade. Everything kicked off since and I haven’t looked back,” Will reminisced, reflecting on the early days that set the stage for his impressive high school career.

Growing up as a passionate OU fan and watching Ada High football from a young age, Will was inspired by the players he once looked up to. “What inspired me was really growing up around it, being a big OU fan and watching Ada High ever since I was in kindergarten, looking up to those guys. One of my big influences is my uncle Dan Cody,” he shared, highlighting the deep-rooted love for the sport in his family. Cody, an impressive linebacker, played football for Ada. He then went on to the University of Oklahoma in 2000 and played for the Baltimore Ravens in 2005.

Will’s role on the team extends beyond his positions on the offensive and defensive lines. As a senior, he embraces many leadership responsibilities. This leadership has been crucial in fostering a strong bond among teammates. “Words can’t describe our team and the way we bond. We grew up together, and ever since the new coaching position, everything has formed even better. It’s a love and a care for each other. Even without football, we all still would be just as tight.”

Despite facing challenges, Will’s perseverance paid off. “The most challenging moment is probably being benched after the first few games because of my performance. I worked hard and tried to perfect my craft to become a starter,” he recalled. His determination is evident in his weekly training routine, which includes weightlifting and explosive conditioning workouts with Cody.

Looking ahead, Will envisions a future outside of football, focusing on his apprenticeship. “I will probably be almost done with my apprenticeship with a plumbing company, running cattle and a commercial fishing ranch with my brother David.”

Will’s journey is a testament to his resilience, leadership and the unbreakable bonds formed through football. As he prepares for the next chapter, he remains grateful for the support of his savior Jesus Christ, his family, friends and coaching staff.
