Ada’s George Maddox – Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Oklahoma Complete Health

In the heart of the playoff action, George Maddox from Ada High School reflects on the journey that has brought him to the State Quarterfinals, showcasing his skills and determination on the football field. During his senior year, George recorded a whopping 103 total tackles, consisting of 20 solo tackles and an impressive 83 assisted tackles. Averaging 8.6 tackles per game, he consistently demonstrated his ability to read plays and contribute to the defensive effort.

As George contemplates his favorite coach, he faces a challenging decision. “That’s a really hard question, but I gotta say Coach Odom because of the way he taught me to play with energy and physicality,” he noted. Adding a personal touch, George acknowledges the influence of his father. “My favorite coach has to be my dad. He hasn’t coached me in high school, but he set the expectation for my whole sports career and taught me to be my best.”

Throughout his football career, George has found a strong ally in teammate Fisher Marr: “Fisher Marr has been a huge part of my football career. We are the middle backers, and it’s like a yin and yang, good cop/bad cop type of deal.”

In the classroom, Mrs. Garcia takes the spotlight as George’s favorite teacher. “She taught me how to read and write, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without that,” he said.

As Ada High School advances in the playoffs, George shares his excitement: “It feels great to be this far. We’ve been taking it one game at a time and preparing for a physical game.” Though the Cougars came up short against Wagoner, they finished the 2023 season with a stellar record of 11-2.

Reflecting on the lessons learned from football, George notes, “Football has taught me to work hard when nobody is looking.” This work ethic has undoubtedly contributed to his impressive defensive statistics, showcasing his skills in tackles, sacks and defensive plays.

Beyond high school, George envisions a future in football. “My plans after high school are to keep playing football in college,” he said. George Maddox leaves an indelible mark not just on the field but also in the hearts of those who follow his journey.
