Kelli Thompson serves as president of the Ada High School Cheer Booster Club.
“I probably spend a couple hours a week with booster duties,” Thompson said. “This year, the booster club has raised money to buy new uniforms and new props for competition. We make sure the girls have what they need in the way of food before games or items for dress-up days. I run a lot of errands, too!”
Thompson has been involved with the booster club for three years but volunteered for the role of president for her daughter, Ava’s senior year. Ella, the oldest daughter of Kelli and husband Jason Thompson, is a sophomore at nearby East Central University. Ella was a Cougann on the pom team at AHS, for which Kelli served as president of the booster club her senior year, too.
“Me and my husband have always been very involved in any activities our daughters have been involved in, so I wanted to help in any way I could,” Thompson said. “It shows them that we care and helps them do their best in all things because they know they are supported.”
Thompson was herself a cheerleader in high school. Her parents made an example for her when they involved themselves with her and her siblings’ activities. “It has definitely been a family affair,” Thompson said. “They both [Ava and Ella] just naturally gravitated to their own thing. I love that one danced and one cheered!”
Thompson hopes both her daughters have learned something about the world through her and Jasons’ sacrifices and through participating in the sports they love. “It’s important to know how to be part of a team. Not only are they cheering on their school teams, but they are cheering on the members of their own team as well,” Thompson said. “I feel like both of my girls have learned very important leadership skills and how to work well with others.”
